The Los Angeles Fashion Council held it SS14 Runway Shows at the park located in The Grove. Major props go out to Kelsi Smith and her crew for putting together a very well organized event. The park was a great location, the shows were on schedule, the staff was friendly, parking was validated, shoppers at The Grove were able to view the presentations, and instead of paper wrist bands we were given neon friendship bracelets. Fun!
Congratulations to designer Rose La Grua for winning LAFC’s Open Runway competition and securing a spot in this season’s presentations. Unfortunately, due to work and traffic I missed her show, which everyone raved about, but I’m sure we’ll see more from this ambitious gal going forward. Here are a few looks from her show courtesy of the Los Angeles Fashion Council. Check out those shoes!!! Rose had them custom made by a friend of hers who is a furniture designer.
However, I did make it in time to catch The Bohemian Society’s collection. Victor Wilde’s manifesto for this season’s looks was O.W.N. (Own, Won, Now)Translation: Live for the moment. Forget winning, you’ve won. Designing for both men and women Victor sent out a variety of bohemian inspired garments all based in black and white and made from repurposed fabrics.
Between shows guests were treated to complimentary makeovers from MAC and custom LAFC nail art courtesy of Nail Swag and Britney Tokyo. Fat Cow provided a coffee and desert bar, Sprinkles passed out mini cupcakes bearing the LAFC logo, and TOMS showed off their latest in stylish eyewear.
The headliner for the day was Katharine Kidd. Her collection was inspired by the secret garden. Vibrant colors and floral motifs played a key role in the signature prints that graced the runway. Celebrities such as Kate Beckinsale and Vanessa Hudgens love Katharine’s feminine silhouettes and sculpted dresses.
After Katharine Kidd’s presentation we all headed over to Top Shop for the after party where we enjoyed champagne and delicious appetizers from The Whisper Lounge. Of course the VIP area was filled with a number of stylish individuals including members of Two Point Oh! LA and some of the designers as well.
