LA Fashion Weekend: Fall Winter 2012

My favorite part of LA Fashion Week is LA Fashion Weekend. Mikey Koffman has been producing fashion shows for years and everything she does is always on a grand scale. Held at Sunset Gower Studios, L.A. Fashion Weekend serves as a major launching pad for local, national, and international designers and also presents a unique branding opportunity for the most elite products and services.

Napoleon Perdis set up shop and treated guests to complimentary makeovers. LiQWD handed out samples of their professional hair care products. (Both were official beauty partners of LA Fashion Weekend.) The lovely ladies from SKINEEZ were on site to tell us about their skincare-wear, which is moisturizing shapewear that represents a new generation of slimming undergarments. Utilizing a patented new technology called Skintex the garments moisturize your skin via natural-based micro-capsules that are embedded inside the garment. Each micro-capsule contains a combination of anti-cellulite and natural based moisturizing ingredients that result in firmer, younger looking skin. The LA Fashion Magazine unveiled its debut issue, which highlighted the designers that showcased during LAFW’s SS2012 event. It is a beautiful publication, and it also features a great interview with Mikey Koffman. The magazine is also available on Apple’s Newsstand App.

Drinks were courtesy of Little Black Dress Vodka, Diabolo Natural Soda, Qream, Primo Beer, Zenify, and Agua Con Water. LBDV is made by women. It comes in 4 varieties: Blueberry Pomegranate, Cherry Vanilla, Pineapple Honey, and classic. It was mixed with Diabolo natural soda for some tasty combinations. Agua Con Water is an LA based product geared toward the Latino community. It has zero calories and comes in a variety of flavors such as Lima y Limon, Pina y Coco, Guayava, and Horchata, which has a hint of cinnamon. Zenify is the opposite of an energy drink. Marketed as the live stress free drink it has a calming effect thus allowing for stronger concentration and focus.

There were a number of great outfits in the VIP area as guests were either decked out in Betsey Johnson or Dina Bar-El.

Betsey Johnson kicked of the FW 2012 presentations for the evening. One of my pet-peeves of fashion shows is when the shoes are not coordinated with the outfits. This was definitely not the case with Betsey Johnson, which delivered the whole package. The illustrious collection featured playful dresses, over-sized bags, and sky high platforms that were to die for. Girly ruffles, floral prints, patterned tights, bustier corset tops, and colorful petticoats rocked the runway. I especially loved the faux-fur trimmed butterfly coat.

Next up was Vilorija – an International French brand designed by Jelena Vujanovic. I spotted Jelena earlier in the evening wearing an adorable metallic dress coat that was obviously one of her own creations. Her collection was titled after the song by Velvet Underground and Nico - “I’ll be Your Mirror”. Mini-dresses and micro shorts featuring geometrical details made their way down the runway. The extravagant collection was flirty, fun, and projected a futuristic vibe. My overall favorite was the bow dress.

Dina Bar-El closed the show. The A-List celebrity favorite is a pro at what she does. Dina sent a variety of styles—ranging from romantic, silk evening gowns in jeweled tones, to figure flattering strapless dresses, to sensual, chic cocktail dresses—down the runway.  Each piece featured a sophisticated silhouette designed to highlight a woman’s curves. The colorful collection, comprised of luxe fabrics, was infused with the decadence of Hollywood Glamour. You could easily pick out something for a high profile event or a night out on the town - whether it be an elegant gown with a draped back a sexy one-shoulder dress.

Once the show was over Mikey invited all to the SkyBar at the Mondrian for the official after party.
