LA Fashion Weekend: Women’s Contemporary and Couture Show

Even though I’m always exhausted by the end of Fashion Week I look forward to the final night because I know the party will be going on at Sunset Gower, and Mikey Koffman always saves the best for last. Thankfully, the rain had stopped so we could all enjoy the outdoor lounge area, which was packed.

Being that tonight’s focus was on couture there was an abundance of stylish individuals in attendance. This lovely gal was wearing an impressive dress by Tuan Tran. Tran creates fine art and haute couture from recycled and repurposed materials. The dress was comprised of a basket weave design and was made from recycled ribbon.

This talented girl showed off her killer style with this incredibly cool outfit. I asked her where she got it and she told me she made it, so I asked her if she was a designer and she said, “No, I was just bored.” I wish I was that creative.

I was very happy to see my friend Kate Linder (The Young and the Restless). She was chatting it up with one of the members of Earth, Wind and Fire.

Designer Mila Hermanovski (Project Runway) was also in the house. I’m a fan of her designs and she’s super cool - in case you were wondering.

Some of the sponsors had a few surprises for us. HoodieBuddie gave away their signature sweatshirts, which feature a patented HB3Technology™. The HoodieBuddie contains a standard headphone jack in the front pocket that plugs into an mp3 player, iPod, iPhone, or other mobile device. The audio travels through embedded cables within the HoodieBuddie to the headphones, which are built into the ends of the drawstrings. Best of all, the hoodie is machine washable – headphones and all.

Bubba Sweets had some  new flavors for us to try – Raspberry Champagne, Maple Bacon, and Willy Wonka (double chocolate). Lovoka tested out a new recipe – mixing their caramel flavored liqueur with champagne. (I was told it would finally be available for purchase in December. I can't wait.) And, the rep from GlamGlow informed me that if you purchase the Cure Sexy exfoliating mud mask (pink jar) 25% of the profits will go to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The models for FlockFlockFLock wore their final looks for the weekend showcase, and made one last appearance on the runway before Midnight Red came out for a repeat performance of their hit “Hell Yeah.”

The first designer to present for the evening was Dina Bar-El. Dina really turned up with “Wow” factor for her SS2013 collection. She captured the crowd with her glamorous gowns in solid colors and mid-length dresses in lace, rose prints, and metallic grey. My favorite was the Neapolitan pattern. The sexy collection accentuated the female form leaving just enough to the imagination.

Nathanaelle Couture’s alluring collection played on a variety of colors. Some looks were sweet and playful others were timeless and classy. Designer Nathanaelle Hottois created her first collection at the age of 12 and now she co-designs with the assistance of 7 year old Amira Haines. Nathanelle draws inspiration from her multicultural background and cites Coco Chanel as an influence, which was evident in her presentation.

Designer Anthony Franco has garnered a large following. His creations are often used for editorials and worn by celebrities. He is equally skilled in menswear and womenswear. The menswear collection consisted of a number of expertly tailored suits that would be fabulous on the red carpet at The Grammys. The looks were made from unconventional materials such as brocade and metallic fabrics.

The womenswear collection showcased the designer’s unique flair for fashion. Models dressed in gorgeous gowns, flirty cocktail dresses, and sleek pantsuits descended down the runway.

Aside from being the final fashion show of LA Fashion Week, tonight was also Mikey Koffman’s birthday. The wonderful folks from Bubba Sweets were kind enough to bake a special cake in Mikey’s honor, and they presented it to her as the DJ played 50 Cent’s “In Da Club (It’s Your Birthday)”. It’s fortunate that Mikey gets to celebrate her birthday during Fashion Week in October, and I get to celebrate mine in during Fashion Week in March. Of course, the party continued at Premiere Supper Club in Hollywood. Happy Birthday Mikey!
