One thing I can honestly say about Collide is that they never disappoint. They consistently put out great albums, and that is no easy feat. The duo has been self producing/releasing infectious recordings for the past 15 years and Counting ToZero is no exception. kaRIN and Statik take pride in their craft and they’ll spend three years, if necessary, before releasing something they are proud of, which is why they are so respected in the industry and have gained attention in the film, T.V. and gamming communities. Further proof you don’t need a big label just a loyal fan base and a repertoire of good music. In fact, the band’s fans pitched in to help make this record happen and each and everyone were thanked in the album’s credits.
On Counting To Zero, Statik (master of sound orchestration) creates a luxurious mix of atmospherics for kaRIN’s sultry vocals to float over. Her voice is utterly spellbinding, especially when paired with the seductive dark wave melodies that Statik conjures up. Each track is layered with a myriad of sounds so you discover something new with each listen. The musical soundscapes of “Bending and Floating” will take you on a journal through exotic lands. “Lucky 13” seduces with its sultry, smokey grooves. The bluesy guitar riffs on “The Frequency” are a nice touch. The aggro trip-hop nature of “Further From Anything” will propel you into a dance frenzy, and the Middle Eastern chants of “Letting Go” close out this dynamic release.
CountingTo Zero is a lush album that employs a beautiful selection of electronic sounds and shifting dynamics. This CD stands in a class of its own. – NIN
