SkinGraft two-year anniversary party for its flagship store located in Downtown, Los Angeles. The label, founded by brothers Johnny and Chris Cota, started out in 2005 as an experiment in performance art-inspired fashion. The line now features ready to wear clothing for men and women in addition to ornate, one-of-a-kind pieces, both of which are can be found in the boutique. The party served as a debut for the new Spring 2011 collection and also featured closeout sales on pieces from the Fall collection. Music was provided by DJ Barry Romance and the smell of leather was in the air. It was nice to have the opportunity to view the clothing up close and fun to watch guests try things on. One girl, Alissandra, looked fabulous in a leather jacket so we had to take a picture of her in it. I hope she bought it because it was very flattering on her.
The highlight for me was seeing the “wedding gown” from the Spring 2011 collection in all its glory. It looked even more stunning on display. If I had about give grand to blow I would have bought it and the mannequin so I could display it in my home. It really is a work of art. Sadly for me, I couldn’t go home with the dress but I did go home with a cool deconstructed sweater.
I happened to notice that the workroom was located in the back of the store. I was tempted to go in and check out the rest of the clothing and see where all the magic happens. Johnny Cota is a very talented designer who does some amazing things with leather. His designs may not be for the masses but for those who understand his vision they are coveted pieces. If you like fashion that makes a statement or you just want to add a few adventurous pieces to your wardrobe be sure to visit the store, which is located at 125 W 4th St. #102, Los Angeles, CA. 90013 (213-626-2662) http://www.skingraftdesigns.com/
