SkinGraft SS2013 Presentation

Each season the show I look forward to the most isSkinGraft. The label has quickly become one of the most sought after avant-garde fashion houses. With a celebrity fanbase consisting of Janet Jackson, Adam Lambert, Marilyn Manson, Trent Reznor, and Rihanna (to name a few) and fashion spreads in Italian Vogue it’s only a matter of time before our beloved L.A. based label gets swept off to Paris, London, or New York.

Instead of putting on a full scale production, designer Jonny Cota opted for a private showcase of SkinGraft’s Spring 2013 collection. Needless to say, I was quite thrilled when I received an invite for the viewing.

The presentation took place at The Skybar located in the Mondrian. Once inside it was quite easy to spot those who were wearing SkinGraft’s apparel. The label definitely has a signature look. The leatherwork is high quality, Jonny’s attention to detail is amazing, and the execution is top notch. The label’s effortlessly cool aesthetic appeals to a wide range of individuals.

I had stopped by the Trocadero before the event started and met a guy at the bar from Texas who was an avid Harley Rider. He was in town for business and mentioned that he had stopped at the Hustler store to pick up some leather wear for his girlfriend to wear while on the back of his bike. Apparently, fashion is a big part of the biker rallies, especially leather. He asked me if I knew of any designers that make cool biker wear. My response: “Funny you should ask. SkinGraft! I’m actually on my way to their Fashion Installation now.”

Coincidentally, SkinGraft’s SS2013 collection was inspired by a new generation of motorcycle gangs. Based in black, white, and red signature leather pieces were paired with sheer summer cottons. Classic biker jacket silhouettes merged with sporty active wear.  The collection exuded a laid back sexy attitude. It’s Easy to see why the label is a coveted brand by those who are looking for something fresh and different.

During the installation I texted a photo to my buddy from Texas with a link to SkinGraft’s website. I’m pretty certain that it won’t be long before we see avid Harley riders wearing Jonny’s designs.
