I heard about KC from my dear friend Claire Jane Vranian (designer for ICJUK). This lovely gal did a stunning photo shoot for some of Claire’s fabulous fascinators. It turns out there is more to this multi-talented artist than just a pretty face. She’s a lady of many talents. Read on and find out.
BM: Tell me about yourself and what you do.
KC: I do many things. I’m a singer. I do my own individual projects, and I also sing in Vaud and The Villains. I also do various freelance work in performance.
What can one expect when they see Vaud and The Villains?
Vaud and The Villains is an experience. It's a 20 piece big band with a New Orleans style and part circus feel to it. You may cry, you may laugh, but you will definitely be on your feet by the time the set is over. We do our very best to include or guest so they feel a part of he experience and walk away feeling special. Many times fans will walk up to us and say, "This is the best performance we've ever seen." and we really have to step back and just say, “Thank you” because we really put our heart and soul into it.
Where and when is your next performance?
Santa Barbara, CA at the SoHo Music Club on June 18th, 2016 at 8pm and the new Ford Ampitheatre on August 19th.
Who are your musical influences?
I’m a young person but I consider myself having an old soul. So, I would have to say Nina Simone, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Koko Taylor, Whitney Houston…from my generation it would definitely have to be Beyoncé – LOL.
You did a beautiful photo shoot for ICJUK’s fascinators. What do you like most about Claire’s creations?
Well the shoot wasn't for ICJUK's fascinators originally. Lately, I've been trying to build my portfolio because I would like to tap into the Commercial/Print Modeling world. Claire, who I met a few months back at the Sunset Marquis, drew my attention with the purse she was carrying. She told me she was a designer and she makes various things. I told her that in Vaud and The Villains I’m known to have a headpiece of some sort - it's just my thing. So, about a week later she said, "I have a few pieces I would like to give you." When she dropped off the box of goodies I almost fell out of my seat! I couldn't believe how beautiful they were. So, now I wear them pretty often.
What is your most prized fashion possession?
I’m totally a hat girl! It doesn't only save a bad hair day, but they’re pretty cute too. LOL
What is your must have accessory?
Earrings. I've never been too wild about accessories, but when I don't wear earrings I feel naked.
Who are your style icons?
Me! Just kidding. It would definitely be International Supermodel Iman. Her grace and elegance is unmatched
Where is your favorite place to shop – boutiques or online?
I actually enjoy vintage shops and thrifting. People give away awesome things and for cheap. LOL
How do you feel art, fashion, and music influence each other?
I feel it's all the same. They are all different forms of expression - different forms of passion. Someone put their heart and soul into a creation to share with the world - pure and undefined. Reality and Fantasy. Whatever you want to feel in that moment you can and it’s organic
What would you like to be remembered for?
Being a good person. What you see is what you get - real connections with people around me.
