B.Yellowtail and Kristen Dorsey Designs hosted a Holiday Capsule Collection pop-up featuring contemporary Native fashion at secret location in Hollywood.
The evening started with a song and prayer by Jeri Brunoe. Spoken in her native tongue the blessing was beautiful and spiritually uplifting.
Afterwards guests enjoyed complimentary wine, champagne, and Hors d’oeuvres while DJ Crystale Lightning provided the tunes to get us in the shopping mood.
Founded in 2014 by Bethany Yellowtail, B.Yellowtail is a fashion brand that celebrates the designer’s Crow (Apsaalooke)/Northern Cheyenne (Tsetsehestahese and So’taeo’o) heritage. The clothing line embraces Native American authentic, indigenous designs through wearable art. Each garment has a story rooted in sacred inspiration; thus, displaying an artistic passion and a balanced harmony that reflects the designer’s motto of “Na’mo’e`nea’mene” (Cheyenne for I walk in beauty). As a result, every design element from colors to cuts to fabrics and patterns is chosen with pristine care, while honoring the unique sources they came from.
Kristen Dorsey creates jewelry that mixes her Chickasaw heritage with Cali-coastal inspiration. Each of her wearable sculptures is hand crafted with time-honored Chickasaw tradition and is infused with a contemporary elegance and edge.
Most noted for her free-hand relief work from flat sheet metal, Kristen creates indigenous jewelry by utilizing the traditional southeastern materials of her ancestors. The designer believes that culture is never lost, but forgotten, and art is a way to remember it so she uses imagery from shell and copper artifacts (dating as far back as A.D. 1000) as inspiration. As a result, the Kristen Dorsey Designs collection communicates a unique historical and cultural perspective unknown to many.
