California Market Center hosts L.A. Fashion Market Week, which features the Select Contemporary Tradeshow, the Focus Apparel and Accessories Show, and Transit (The L.A. Shoe Show). Sadly, I did not have time to attend all three but I did manage to pop into the Select showroom to get a sneak peek at some of the 2011 Fall/Holiday Collections.
One of the items on display was a dress by Charlotte Todd that reportedly started the Royal Romance between Will and Kate. The original was worn by Kate in a fashion show, which is how she caught Will’s eye. It was auctioned for $126,000, but you can get yours for £59.95 at http://www.fashionbabylon.com/. Word is they’ll be on sale in Cali soon.
The Brazilian inspired Jewelry by Marcia Moran caught my attention. The pieces are made from brushed 18kt gold or rhodium-plated metals and feature beautiful semi-precious stones.
I also spotted an array of beautiful, one of a kind wraps, stoles, and Pashmina shawls for men and women by Jewelwraps. The company (Bhajan Basic Designs) is run by two sisters who are dedicated of preserving the art of making the garments by hand by ensuring that each piece is dyed, woven, crafted, and embroidered by hand, which results in a unique, one-of-a-kind piece. The company also hires underprivileged men and women and teaches them skills that will enable them to become self reliant; thus, providing an opportunity to improve their quality of life.
Of course of I was drooling over the killer shoes by Pour La Victoire, which are inspired by hard edge European design houses and the spirit of revolution. These shoes are for the fashion forward woman who is looking for a unique way of expressing her individuality. The company is also responsible for the Kelsi Dagger line, which I also love.
Boutique 9 also had a number of fun shoes on display.
I also spotted some cute purses by remi and reid.
If you’re in the fashion industry be sure to check out the vendors during L.A. Market Week. There are so many fun, interesting, and unique finds. It’s a real treat to spend a day or two browsing through all the selections.
