L.A. Fashion Weekend - Day 2

Saturday Night and we are back at Sunset Gower Studios to catch the evening’s shows. I was fortunate enough to wear the 2b.Rych dress that made its debut on Fashion’s Night Out at Lord & Taylor. Fashionistas, when I tell you to seek a garment out you better listen. That dress got so many compliments and a number of photos were taken of me in it.

Despite the rain we got there in time to enjoy the pre-cocktail reception, which gave us the opportunity to check out what everyone was wearing. We also spotted Carson Kressley and Ken Davitian (of Borat fame) in the crowd.

The evening started out with a collection by JL Marks. Designer Jessica Marks must have been inspired by Studio 54 because a lot of metallics and sequins rocked the runway. The designs were created with vintage fabrics and trims and the models were accessorized with bangles and nude & gold headbands. It was very boho disco.

Up next was Balthaczar. Designers Crayhton Bauxmont-Flynn and Matthias Bartz are classically trained in architectural and sculptural design. Their background is reflected in their silhouettes, which are the result of exceptional construction techniques. The duo are not afraid to use bold colors as their spring 2011 collection was filled with vibrant reds, bright yellows, and funky greens. One of my favorites was a dress adorned with cascading gold chains. They also sent down a lovely wedding dress that reflected their unique perspective on luxury. At the end of the runway the model tossed the bridal bouquet. I was the lucky recipient only because it was headed straight for J’s face and out if instinct I grabbed it before it could hit her. (She was too busy shooting photos to notice.) I consider it lucky that I caught the Fashion Week bouquet.

JoyRich closed the show with a collection that paid homage to 80s pop-culture. The contemporary streetwear collection featured an eclectic mix of striking colors, vibrant animal prints, eye-catching patterns, and metallics. (Yes, metallics are in for spring). JoyRich’s design team are not afraid to experiment as they sent American Flag leggings and matching top down the runway. Models also sported blinged out fanny packs, headbands, and harem pants. Personally, having lived through the 80’s once is enough.
