Emerging Designer Showcase at LA Fashion Weekend

On Saturday I was grateful that the rain stopped before the F/W 2012 Emerging Designer Showcase event at LA Fashion Weekend got underway. There were a number of familiar faces in the crowd and also a few new ones.

Upon arrival guests were asked to scan the LAFW QP Code in order to win a fabulous gift basket. A gal named Jennifer won on Friday night and a lucky guy was Saturday night’s winner.

Before the runway show got underway Jen DM and Rick Gradone of the avant-garde music duo Hi-Fashion performed for us accompanied by a colorful dance troupe.

Ashlee Brooks was the first designer to present for the evening. Ashlee founded her Dallas based brand in 2009 and was a runner up in the Texas Next Top Designer competition. Ashlee Brooks’ F/W 2012 collection was influenced by the feminine physique and featured draped trousers, a jacket with a peplum edge, a cape-like shift dress, and a leather bustier paired with a long sheer skirt.

The Sarahi House of Fashion was started in 2008 in order to meet the demand for upscale couture for tall women. Designer Suzette Kelly has since expanded to offer apparel that functions as everyday wear and is also suitable for average height women as well as petites. Suzette has a true eye for detail and her collection exuded a sexy urban attitude.

LAHA added a new twist to L.A. Fashion Weekend with their Glamorous Girl collection. The whimsical children’s line created by Lillian Jones caters to girls in the 7 – 14 year old age range. The little fashionistas in training were adorable as they strutted down the runway with a fierce attitude. The collection featured an assortment of mix-and-match ensembles comprised of bubble dresses, sparkly slacks, polka dots, zebra prints, fur, and sequins – all things a girl loves to wear. These young ladies were such a hit on the runway that they made a second appearance at the end of the show.

SKINEEZ presented a little eye candy for the guys and gals with their revolutionary moisturizing shapewear collection. SKINEEZ shapewear provides support and contouring for the body and creates firmer, younger looking skin via a patented technology called Skintex that softens the skin and helps shrink away inches. The garments can be layered under clothing or worn alone, which the models demonstrated on the catwalk as they strutted out in activewear, camisoles, reversible leggings, and printed tights. The lovely reps from SKINEEZ gave me a pair of their leggings to try out. Stay tuned for a full report.
