Concept LA FW13 Presentations

Concept LA’s bi-annual event returned to Siren Studios for its second season. Jen Awad held the honors of opening up the day long festivities. 

Jen, a Los Angeles native of Peruvian and Egyptian descent, is a favorite among the blogger community. Her FW 2013 collection featured a number of romantic and feminine pieces that exuded a youthful and playful aesthetic. The central theme was velvet, which manifested in tailored suites and an extravagant coat dress. There were a few sexy see-through pieces and body conscious dresses. For the grand finale Jen sent out an unconventional wedding gown that was perfect for a fairy tale wedding.

Much like Jen Awad, Curly- V is another young designer with a lot of talent and vision. His creations are unique, fun, and full of life. It was nice to see him there to show his support for Jen. 

In between runway shows all the fabulous attendees hung out in the lounge area on the roof of Siren Studios listening to cool tunes and enjoying drinks courtesy of Chambord and Monster Energy. It was a beautiful day and the view was gorgeous. It was so clear you could see the Hollywood sign.

While waiting for the next presentation we had the opportunity to view installations by designers Korovilas, Dai Le, and JBURGOS.

J BURGOS is a comprehensive clothing line that caters to fashionably chic women. Jenn Burgos’ clothing is designed with the idea in mind that less is more. Her collection was comprised of an array of silhouettes from fitted cocktail dresses, to classic separates, to flowy dresses. J BURGOS’ feminine and romantic designs were made to flatter every body type.

Korovilas was founded in 2012 with a goal of creating sophisticated and highly crafted garments. Designer Maria Korovilas specializes in great fitting tailored dresses with an emphasis on detail. The intricate pieces comprised of classic silhouettes were comprised of knit lace and silk chiffon. Others were hand painted and elaborately crafted to give a certain texture.

Dai Le is a newcomer to the Los Angeles Fashion scene. Specializing in apocalyptic alternative streetwear his looks have an edgy appeal.

The next runway presentation was titled Caribbean Showcase and it featured the works of Barbados based designers Brandi Estwick and Kesia Estwick (no relation). Brandi’s started things off with her Iman Estie collection. Her black and white based looks presented a modern take on elegance and were inspired by architecture and music.

Kesia’s streetwear line labeled KISS+GIRL featured a number of edgy looks that exuded a bad girl attitude. Known for her punk style and rock and roll inspired apparel Kesia’s creations are designed with the fashion risk taker in mind.    

Up next was Nikki Rich, which is the sister line to White Trash Beautiful (co-designed by Nikki Lund and Richie Sambora). Dubbed a modern lifestyle brand for a new generation Nikki Rich apparel offers casually chic clothing at an affordable price. Military inspired jackets, leather shorts, sheer blouses, cropped blazers, skinny trousers, and simplistic dresses graced the runway.  A number of pieces could easily transform from day to night.
