Flobots: The Circle In The Square

(Shanachie Records)

Remember about two years ago when you couldn’t turn on a radio without hearing a tune that said “I can ride a bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handlebars?” You instantly said you loved it and it received major play outs everywhere your ears traveled to. Well, the Flobots (who were the creators behind “Handlebars”) are back in action and even more driven to deliver a message to your ears. Personally, the Flobots are this generation’s version of Rage Against The Machine with messages full of political reform, equality, immigration issues, racial issues, etc. Their upcoming release, titled The Circle In The Square, finds the band preaching about their beliefs yet again. The first single, titled after the album itself, is full of funky violins, anthem like choruses, and a hint of Indian inspired guitar melodies. You’ll find on August 28th, when this CD drops, that the entire piece has blends of rap, indie rock, harmonizing chants, and (you guessed it) blatant socio economic views. If you’re looking for movement-inspiring background music be sure to pick up your copy of the Flobots’ The Circle In The Square. - Melissa Moreno
