LA Fashion Weekend: Fall 2011 – Saturday, March 19th

On Saturday we were back at Sunset Gower for day two of LA Fashion Weekend. We were grateful the rain hadn’t hit yet and hoped it would wait until we were home. Upon arrival we saw the new additions to Septerhed’s canvas, which included phrases such as “The Perfect Shoes” and “The Perfect Dress” written along the border.

After snapping a few photos and grabbing a drink at the bar, which was hosted by Stella Artois and Moreno BHLV sparkling wine, we met another cool couple from the OC. They were invited to the show by their friend Marisa Stewart, who designs a line of blinged out panties under the moniker Star Candy. She pulled out a pair from her cute little pink purse to show us. Like every smart girl, Marisa is always prepared.

The event was running late, rumor had it we were waiting for Jeremy Piven. I wondered why he would be there but didn’t care because we were having a good time conversing with Lisa Boosin and Elizabeth Daniels from Racked LA. It wasn’t long before we were joined by Chris Cota, who runs the business side of SkinGraft. I was a little bummed because initially I had planned on wearing the Skin.Graft deconstructed sweater I had bought a few days before, but since it was so cold I opted for something warmer. Chris was an absolute doll and put up with all my questions, including the one about the rumor that Skin.Graft was going to move their runway show to Paris. He just smiled and said that maybe I should book my flight now.

Finally it was time for the shows to start and, sure enough, sitting in front of me was Jeremy Piven. Who knew? He didn’t look well. Perhaps long nights on the Entourage set were to blame or maybe it was mercury poisoning from too much sushi. Ron Jeremy was sitting across the stage from us but he was gracious enough to walk over and say “Hello” to Piven.

Soon after, Mikey came out on stage to welcome everyone and introduce Polish-Canadian recording artist Anna Cyzon. After her performance the event began with a sexy lingerie presentation by Biatta Intimates. In business for 14 years, the company creates affordable intimates and sleepwear for women. Models graced the catwalk in bra and panty sets, bustiers, hotshorts, babydolls, and silk robes - all in a variety of styles and colors ranging from leopard prints to florals to basic black and white. Holly Madison is a fan of the line and apparently Ron and Piven are too.

Biatta Intimates offered entertainment for the men so Z Brand sent out a little eye candy for the women. Z Brand’s apparel is inspired by world travels and the everyday wear and tear affect it has on clothes. The line featured an array of knits, hoodies, denim, and collared shirts that were torn and tattered by hand. If you are looking for comfy casual wear then check them out.

Not only were Nicole Lee Handbags on display in the stylist lounge they were also on the runway – not as accessories but as part of the main feature. The models wore oversized sunglasses and basic black in order to not take away from the presentation of the handbags. Geared for the fashionista who is young at heart, Nicole Lee Handbags feature lots of color and accents such as faux fur, fringe, and a big logo.

Nuvula clothing presented a more edgy collection of the evening. Inspired by “the circus of life and performance” the design team behind the brand combined their passion for art, music, and poetry to create a number of avant-garde looks for the Fall 2011 collection. The line featured a mixture of bohemian, romantic, and urban elements that centered up a color palette of red, purple, and blue. Jackets had exaggerated shoulders, dresses were made from asymmetrical, mismatched patterns, and shirts had puffy sleeves. Prince would be proud.

Civil Society was back at Sunset Gower to show us their latest. Taking a cue from Teeki they opened their show with a cute little boy named Brendan, who was stylishly dressed in a mini version of the Civil Society line. Designed by Brad Schwartz, Civil Society apparel combines finely tailored European details with an American twist. Models, accessorized with newsboy caps, beanies, leather gloves, and bow ties came down the runway in leather jackets, cargo pants, vests, hoodies, and blazers. The collection ranged from casual to office attire and was suitable for rockstars, accountants, and everyone in between.

Dina Bar-El closed the evening with a sophisticated collection of evening wear. Dina, a world renowned fashion designer, has been in business since 1974. As a former model she knows a women’s body and creates figure flattering dresses. Her clients include Eva Longoria, Kate Hudson, and Beyoncé. Having worked with A-List celebs Dina sent out a collection of dresses that ranged from classy to sexy and were worthy of the red carpet as well as award dinners. Floor length gowns were accented with crystal detailing. Cocktail dresses came in shimmering blue and emerald green. Dina isn’t afraid of color because her collection represented all aspects of the rainbow.

The gift bag, courtesy of Make Love Not Trash, was filled with gift certificates, some of which were from The Brighton Shave Co. and Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group. There were samples from Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and Planet Salon (both of which provided hair and make-up for the models). A pair of undies courtesy of Biatta Intimates and a really cool clutch from Nicole Lee. The after party was held at Rolling Stone Restaurant and Lounge because fashion and music is what it’s all about.
